It's Electric

“Thousands of emotions well up inside me throughout the day. They are released when I dance.”  ~Abraham Lincoln

A lot of wonderful things have happened in my life—-some considered miracles.

Years ago, I was making a house call to a boisterous older Italian lady. Her personality filled the room along with her laughter and the essence of home cooked food. I felt like I was part of “The Family.”

She explained that in the last few years, her mobility has significantly declined—and was diagnosed with severe arthritis in her knees. She no longer was able to enjoy her walks to the cemetery to visit her late husband—he simply struggled to just get out of a chair.

She told me stories of when she used to enjoy cooking and dancing with her husband. These stories lit up her face and brought tears to mine. She clearly missed him.

As we talked, I began seeing the connection between her emotions and the manifestation of her arthritis. She didn’t feel safe, her heart was breaking, and she felt like the part that completed her was missing. She even admitted to not taking enough time to grieve his death.

It made sense that her arthritis became worse after her husbands passing and why she no longer found joy in many things. It appeared she was having trouble moving on with her life---both mentally and physically.

What followed was a m-i-r-a-c-l-e.

When I began the session I found much of the energy being drawn to her knees. First, I started with one knee. Then the other. I saw mini chakras that had developed around each knee and the meridians that run from the knee to the toes. I understood my role in relieving the energetic congestion there. While finishing up on her right leg, a jolt of energy came out of my left middle finger to her knee that made a buzzing noise and a blue spark! This sensation felt like electricity---I know this, because I have so brilliantly stuck my finger in an outlet before! Nothing of this magnitude had ever happened before in my healings. I wondered if I had actually electrocuted her! I glanced up to see if she was in pain---thankfully a peaceful expression blanked her face. Phewww...

As I continued to work I could see an injury from her early twenties in her ankle. It appeared to part of an accident with a car door— sure enough, she explained a car door was slammed on her ankle in her early twenties! This injury was impeding the flow of energy to her knees, so I cleared the trauma and realigned the energy. It always amazes me how long the body will hold on to trauma. That energy and information (injury) was over 50 years old!

After I finished up the healing I spoke to her about the electrical shock—she was indeed aware of it! I asked her why she wasn’t afraid of the shock and she said, “I just trusted it was supposed to happen!” Wow!

After debriefing her on my findings, I informed her that her late husband was present during the healing session. He had his arm wrapped around her shoulders to comfort her during the session. She was thrilled to know that he was close to her and remarked how he had always wrapped his arm around her when they were together.

When it was time to say goodbye, she stood up with ease and exclaimed, “I don’t have pain anymore! I’m going to go for a walk around the block! Maybe I’ll go all the way to the cemetery!” We laughed, and I told her to not over do it as her body adjusts to the new energy and frequency. She agreed a walk on the block was a safe bet for now.

What happened in this healing turned out to be the perfect dance between her mind, body and spirit, and a perfect example of a miracle.

****I just want to take a moment to share how honored I feel when those who have passed present themselves in healings. Their energy is so pure, loving, and their messages so clear and healing. It is hard to describe how lucky I feel to be able to connect to them during healings and be in their presence. It’s humbling and honoring at the same time. Sometimes it instantly makes me cry because the beauty, clarity and love is so overwhelming.****

You Are Not Alone

“Do not assume that divine guidance flows only when you are in need of help. Guidance continues to flow whether or not you have problems.   It...comes during times of tranquility or is up to you to have the courage to acknowledge it.”  ~ Caroline Myss

You are not alone.

If there was only one thing I could convey to you, it is that you are not alone.  You are constantly being guided. It can be very hard to believe at times but I assure you-- you are not alone. If there is ever a time when you feel you you need help, please ask the Universe (God or whomever you believe in) for help-- and then listen. Often times we are too busy to wait for an answer and so we think that our prayers are not being answered. We also have a preconceived notion about what form our answer or guidance should come as. Please be open to everything and be patient. Everything is happening in divine timing.

You are being guided in various ways. The key is to always be listening. Guidance will come through friends, family, situations, and things. I have seen this so many times, that I no longer believe in coincidences. I call them synchronicities because guidance from the Universe is all about timing. Guidance will come.  It is in the timing of your listening and being ready to hear the message that will make all the difference.

When I first started out on this journey to energy medicine I was pretty clueless as to what direction I should go in.  So I began by reading several books based on the scientific evidence of psychic phenomenon. I read a book about 5 or so famous mediums who were put through a series of tests to prove their ability to talk to those who have crossed over. I was particularly impressed by one medium called John Edward. Reading about his gift made me wonder about what mine might be. At the time, I had many gifts that were developing and I didn’t know what to do with them. Was I a medical intuitive, psychic, healer, or medium?

At the time I finished the book about the 5 mediums, I found myself at a school fundraiser with many donated books for sale. Being on a budget, I hoped I could find the perfect book-- and I did. While perusing the plethora of books, I glanced down and saw a John Edward book right there!  When I looked at it, I knew there was a message inside it to me. I quickly opened the book and looked at the inside cover...nothing. Hmmm, maybe it’s on the last few pages. Nothing. I decided to take home the book anyway and thought I was silly for thinking a message for me was somehow embedded in the book. Maybe the message is in the text of the book, but that didn’t seem right either. It really felt like there was a message for me specifically.

Weeks later, I was sitting on my couch reading his book and decide to get a cup of coffee. I place the book down and out falls a note! At that point, I actually freaked out. This is what the note said:

Dear Amy,

This is not your gift.  It is coming in the mail.  We have subscribed to John Edward’s newsletter for you for a year. Hope you have a wonderful year!

Ellen and David

Holy moly!  You are probably thinking I made this up! But I didn’t! I promise. The amount of things that needed to be orchestrated in order for me to receive this message is incredible. This is the short version of what was orchestrated (it definitely entailed so much more). Amy (whomever she is) had a birthday, Ellen and David decided to give this book (which they felt wasn’t enough for Amy), so they decided to write a note, Amy decided to donate the book with the note in the book, I decided to attend the fundraiser, look for a book, wonder what my “gift” was, listen to the message of guidance about this book, buy the book, read the book and find the note.

You may be thinking why didn’t the Universe present the note right away when I looked for it? It’s because I wasn’t ready to hear the message. I needed to buy the book to learn from his work and get a better understanding of his gift. Only then was I ready to learn that being a medium wasn’t “my gift.” While I will talk to spirits who have crossed over, and enjoy it, I only use their information to help me with a healing.

Because of that experience I learned that I should always be open to and listen to the messages and signs that I’m looking for and to not assume the form that the guidance should come in.

In the course of my time working in the spiritual realm, I have learned, without a doubt, the Universe has got my back (and yours). Knowing that help is always available (if we take the time to listen) should bring some relief.

I hope this example inspires you to take notice and listen--I think you will be as amazed as I have been.

I needed to share this! I recently went to my first acupuncture appointment.  I know!  Totally surprising, but truthfully the Universe hadn't presented me with someone I felt comfortable doing this form of treatment.

The acupuncturist I chose is very in tune with other energy healing modalities (in addition to Traditional Chinese Medicine), and incorporates them into her practice.  Plus, we are exchanging services which is really an awesome benefit of being in my field.   Yeah for free massages and energy work!!!

I decided to experience acupuncture out of curiosity first and foremost, but also I wanted help getting to my "happy weight" ---the weight where you just put on your clothes and they fit perfectly and make you feel great.

Even though I'm really healthy according to my "numbers" attained through Western medicine protocol, I know I could stand to lose a few pounds, and I intuitively knew my metabolism needed an energetic boost (or a kick in the butt), so I elicited some help.

Per usual in a doctor's office, I filled out a lengthy questionnaire asking me detailed questions of my history, lifestyle and present symptoms.  She asked me about my diet, looked at my tongue (gross!), and felt my energetic pulses (what?!).  I don't know how she did this, but while taking my pulses, she could somehow tell I had an accident in my teenage years in my lower back (I broke my lower back when I was 16), and I had seen something scary in the last 24 hrs (I watched a scary show before bed---I almost never do that, because it disturbs me so much)!  Very much intriguing and impressive.

After a long discussion (about practically every detail of my life!--yes, she even asked me about my poop!) she surmised the purpose of the treatment was to treat a "damp," "heat" condition in my body---sounds nasty but it's TCM lingo.

What was interesting about this appointment is that she explained WHY I had developed a damp, heat in my body.  Apparently, I've created this condition through my intense desire to learn and so have started robbing energy from other areas of my body in order to fuel my insatiable desire for knowledge.  In addition, I am constantly "downloading" tons of source energy which overloaded my metabolism.  The combination of these two things and the fact that I'm often in Florida---hello sizzling heat and sticky humidity!---I needed some energetic adjustment.  Plus, she advised me about the foods I was regularly eating that were either contributing to or lessening my symptoms.  For example, she told me I was right on track with drinking Aloe Vera juice (score one for me!), and I needed to cut back on peanut butter because of the nature of the conditions in which it is grown (total bummer)!  But how interesting!

Right before the treatment, I asked her what was going to happen to me after the treatment.  Was I going to become disinterested in learning, or worse, dumb after the treatment?  I know that sounds ridiculous, but I just wanted to be clear.  Thankfully, my thirst for knowledge would be dialed down---not my intellect.

After that reassurance, I was ready to get rewired!

I knew I would be sensitive to the energy flow, but I didn't know how sensitive!

OMG!  After the insertion of the first needle (right between my big toe and 2nd toe), a wave of energy looking exactly like a blue ocean wave, glided up my body, nearly lifting me off the table!  The wave seemed to find it's resting spot somewhere in my lower back on the right side.  I immediately described what I felt and she remarked, "That's exactly where the energy was supposed to go---to your right kidney."  Whoa!

Then she did it on the other side, this time it was if a red lightning bolt shot up my leg, branched off a my left kidney and proceeded up to my head.  This was exciting!

With each insertion of a needle I could feel some sort of release in my body and not at the direct site of insertion.

One of the last needles placed in my body was to "drain" heat from my body.  I had no idea that this particular placement was supposed to do that, but sure enough, I immediately experienced an internal shiver.  I couldn't believe how quickly and effectively each needles' placement was.

As if that wasn't cool enough, in the middle of the treatment I opened my eyes and could see the whole room filled with tiny white balls of energy bouncing off of each other, and all the electronic equipment in the room started to buzz!  I was even able to control the loudness of the buzzing with intentional releases of energy from my body!  The more I released, the louder it got!  So amazing!

As for how I felt after the treatment?  I felt great!  I felt relaxed and I could tell that I was slightly disinterested in research and food---very interesting.   I also felt lighter---so much so I thought I might have dropped some weight the very next day.  The scale didn't register a difference but maybe my body will catch up to how I'm feeling.  Either way, I'm happy with the results.

I can't wait for the next treatment!

“Even if your hands are shaking, And your faith is broken, Even as the eyes are closing, Do it with a heart wide open, Say what you need to say.” ~John Mayer

So we’ve established a connection between emotions and illness--- but can emotions be a predictor of cancer?

According to Bernie Segal, a cancer doctor and surgeon for over 40 years, the answer is yes.  The connection is so strong that a psychological questionnaire is often a better predictor of cancer than a physician’s physical exam!

Let’s first take a look at the biology of cancer.  It is well understood that oncogenes play a role in cancer.   An oncogene is a gene that contributes to converting a normal cell into a cancer cell.  If these genes were the only predictor of cancer, patients would develop tumors throughout the body simultaneously---but this is not the case!  There is usually one area that has psychological significance to the patient where the cancer forms.  This is called the target organ (Love, Medicine, and Miracles pg. 90).

The link between cancer and emotions has been known since 1926 when Elida Evans did the Psychological Study of Cancer and found emotional loss---is---a---predictor---of--- cancer!   More recently, Marjorie and Claus Bahnson developed a questionnaire that is 88% accurate in assessing for cancer and another researcher was able to pick out malignancies based on patients perceived hopeless and recent emotional loss.

Doesn’t this all sound familiar?  Isn’t this very similar to the question of why don’t we get sick all the time if we are constantly exposed to germs?  What’s causing us to be more susceptible to illness more than other times?

It’s because our thinking strongly influences our biology!  Did you know it's possible for a person under anesthesia, to change her heartbeat from 130 beats per minute to 85 beats per minute on command!!!

What’s so wonderful about these revelations---mind over body---is that it has lead many people to survive what is deemed a terminal illness!  Dr. Bernie Segal understood this mind body connection so well that he formed ECaP (Exceptional Cancer Patients) to provide a therapeutic environment to confront the psychological issues most cancer patients face.  This support group often lead to personal change, healing and hope.

These patients had to do the dirty work.  They rolled up their sleeves, looked at the unhealthy patterns in their life and changed them.  Sometimes it meant leaving a spouse, changing careers, or voicing their concerns to family---but it saved their life.

They didn’t rely on something or someone outside of them to “fix” them.  They took responsibility for their emotions and how they were manifesting in their bodies.  They listened to their bodies.

Doctors can minimize discomfort and cover up wounds--- but what people need most is hope---to give us the confidence to go within---the place of true healing.

“Here the skeptic finds chaos and the believer further evidence that the hand that made us is divine.” ~Robert Moses

I love a good skeptic.  Especially the nuclear physicist kind.

Recently I found myself in conversation with one trying to explain energy healing.  They know splitting an atom (which is essentially making something less than what it was!) results in more than they can handle--- but energy healing under the very same sky is impossible!  I think not!

We all hear people say things like, “I like her energy,” “she’s really positive,” “I got a good vibe from her,” or “I’m getting mixed signals” ---yet many can’t seem to believe our energy is readable.

Here’s the physics of it all-- our bodies essentially flash in and out of existence.  Yeah, I know, hard to believe.  This is because on the most basic level, we are composed of atoms and the components of an atom flash in and out of existence.

From a biological view, each strand of DNA, contracts several BILLION times a second!  That’s just amazing! Each contraction releases a photon of light carrying all your genetic information!

It turns out the brain doesn’t have the circuitry (RAM) to be able to process all this information and store it.  So it is released from the body in frequencies.  The information is then stored in the electromagnetic field (the aura) that encapsulates the human body.  This field is photographable, measurable and well documented to exist.

Essentially, our field (aura) is a magnet holding on to all our information.  Scientists know this because they have seen Alzheimer patients (missing 40% of their brain) be able to recall information from their past under hypnosis---with great clarity!!!  That means that the information is being stored outside of the brain.

If our information is suspended in the air like radio waves, it’s understandable that we could tune into these energy frequencies and listen to what’s going on.  Some refer to us as human antennas.

We’ve probably all seen a mangled antenna incapable of receiving a radio station--- our bodies are the same.  If they are “mangled” by inappropriate diet, lack of exercise, and detrimental thoughts, we aren’t going to be clear receivers of guidance.

To be able to hear clear guidance you have to treat your antennae really well.  I look at my body like my instrument.  That’s why I have become so adept at sensing energy.  I continually feed my mind, body, and spirit with things that create alignment so that I am able to clearly differentiate between my body’s energy and others’.  I also do this so that I am in vibrational alignment with the things I want in life.

If the Law of Attraction isn’t working for you, your antennae might need adjusting!

“Your biography is your biology.” ~Carolyn Myss

What’s so cool about all this scientific analysis on age old modalities is that an Eastern practitioner would probably smile and respond to Western proof with something like, “Yes, I know.  Nameste.”

Chakras are energy centers (invisible to many) throughout the body that correspond to significant intersections of nerves.  Chakras are believed to store information (like a computer chip) about you and are related to sickness and health.

A great pioneer in the field of energy medicine is Carolyn Myss.  She is a medical intuitive who, throughout her 30+ years of practice, has seen patterns of sickness in chakras and so have I.  She, along with others in our field, have made it easy to see how our emotional health is related to our energetic and physical health.

When I first began studying Carolyn Myss’ work I was very skeptical.  I really wanted to know how our emotions not only effected our energy---but how it translated into our body possibly creating illness.

So I began at the beginning--well actually the base! The base chakra, also known as the first chakra, is located just below the pelvis and is usually symbolized in red.  Mystics and energy practitioners generally agree that the strength of this chakra is directly related to your perceived safety and security when you were growing up.  It is also directly related to how you feel you fit into your community.  Community can mean your family, your tribe, your country, or your neighborhood.  Since this is the base chakra, it is believed to be fueled by the Earth’s energy (because it’s closest to the Earth!)--imagine the roots to a family tree.

For those who’s base chakra is unstable, lacking in energy or unbalanced, they generally experience autoimmune deficiencies (a white blood cell malady) such as allergies, arthritis, eczema and Type 1 diabetes.  They also experience blood disorders such as blood clots and hemophilia.  These symptoms often create inflammation in the body because blood feeds the joints, muscles, organs, tissues, and cells.

These disorders are the result of perceived threats on the body from the environment---not actual threats to survival.  In fact, the definition of an autoimmune disorder is a condition in which the immune system reacts inappropriately to the body's own tissues and attacks them, causing damage and/or interfering with normal functioning.

So what is making our bodies react inappropriately?

Our fight or flight response!  Remember how our bodies are hard wired to get down and dirty or get outta there?  This response places stress on our bodies by making our heart race from adrenaline and releasing excess cortisol, slowing digestion, sending blood flow away from the core and lowering our immune system!  No wonder why the health of our base chakra is related to safety and security!  When we don’t feel safe, we feel the need to fight or get the heck out of there.

Interestingly, in Chinese medicine the fight or flight response is held in the Triple Burner meridian---which is fueled by---get this---prenatal and postnatal energy!  It also begins in the kidney meridian---and the kidneys contain the adrenal glands and they secrete cortisol!  Cortisol is essential to helping our bodies cope with stress and to fight infection-- balance is crucial to health!

Isn’t it totally amazing that these energy concepts are so similar yet created by different cultures!!!

So you may be wondering what is turning on the fight or flight response?

It turns out---mental stress!  What is stress?  Wayne Dyer posed these questions which really got me thinking.  Can you go out and buy stress?  Can you touch it?  No!  It is a pattern of negative thought.  It is worry--- better known as wasted creative energy.  Basically, it is all thought and no action.  That energy has got to go some where!

There you have it folks!  We have come full circle.  Emotions effect the body through the release of chemicals.  Constantly bombarding the body with these chemicals becauseof negative thoughts (energy) about something that happened 30 years ago (for example), can over time create illness.  This compounding of stress (thoughts --> chemicals) creates catastrophic complications for the body.

Cell biologist, Dr. Bruce Lipton said it best,  “We are currently taught that genes control life.  However, we will come to realize that our learned perceptions of life control our biology...With this knowledge we can knowingly control our life experiences.”

So what can we do to stop this vicious cycle effecting our base chakra and the foundation of our health?

Any activity that decreases stress is a great idea.  Changing thought patterns---possibly carrying a graditude rock, living in a state of appreciation, and forgiving.  As always, meditation also helps because it lowers blood pressure, decreases cortisol levels, and lowers cholesterol.  Grounding (connecting to the Earth with bare feet) has also been shown to be especially effective in bringing down inflammation in the body and so has energy healing.

Mamma Mia

"Mamma mia, it's a game we play Bye-bye doesn't mean forever." ~Mamma Mia

One of my clients suffered a stroke a couple of years earlier and has done a remarkable job of rehabilitating his mind and body.  When I work on him, we work out some of the “kinks.”  Some of the energy signals in his brain are still not making it to parts of the body so I help guide these connections.

When I first started working on him I surveyed his body to see where the stroke was and how it had effected his body.  I could see that the stroke happened on the left side of his brain, and effected a baseball sized area of his brain behind his ear.  It also effected movement on the right side of his body, face, mouth, speech, ability to write (specifically his thumb and pointer finger) and walk.

Working on him is always an amazing experience. When I send Reiki energy through the specific areas I can see the muscles twitching beneath the skin. To me, it appears that the Reiki energy activates connections in the effected muscles and nerves and sends the signal back to the brain.  Often, my clients will feel tingling, sensations of heat, and movement.

When I was working in his throat chakra (located over the throat), my entire face went numb and I couldn’t move my jaw or tongue.  This scared me until I realized it was his symptom from the stroke.  After I realized that, I was able to release the energy and concentrate on helping the brain, jaw and tongue fully reconnect.

While working on his hands, I began getting an itchy feeling between my pointer finger and thumb.  This kind of sensation signals to me I need to pay extra attention to the area. I began directing the energy from his brain, down his arm, and out his fingers.  When I no longer feel resistance (a clog) in the energy, I move on.

When I moved towards his waist, I immediately sensed a presence in the room-- and she felt pretty darn physically close to me.  I tuned into what I was feeling and soon realized this spirt was my client’s mother.  She was participating in the healing session-- but was also distracting me.

His mother is Italian.  Need I say more?  She’s the kind of mom who would start wiping something off your face with spit when you are trying to act cool in front of your friends.  She just didn’t care.  She would even vacuum his room when he was sleeping early in the morning because “she had things to do!”

I recognized his mother from a previous reading I had done for him.  She was, (surprise!), very close to her son, and repeatedly told me how much she loved her son, missed having pretzels with him after school and tucking him in at night.  She showed me what his bedroom looked like as a kid, so I was able to describe exactly how it was decorated.  It turned out, they enjoyed pretzels everyday after school, and his room was exactly as I described.

During this session, she emanated, this is my son and I need to attend to him.  She was happy I was there working on him but she seemed concerned that part of his midriff was showing. I kept feeling like she wanted to pull down his shirt.  She wouldn’t leave the area I was working on and so I could hardly concentrate on the healing at hand (no pun intended!).

When I finished the session, I asked him if his mom was the type of mom to be fixing his clothes when he was talking to a friend. “Yes! She was! It was so embarrassing!”  I explained how she was so concerned about his midriff showing and kept distracting me--he laughed and so did I.  After the session, he reported that he was better able to write and could now place weight on his right leg--and I was happy to help.

*Note:  I have received consent from any client who's story is posted.

“If the total band of electromagnetic frequencies [light] is represented by the height of the Empire State Building..the band you see is much less than the height of a grain of sand.” ~Gary Schwartz Ph. D.

Despite how amazing this planet is in all it’s brilliance, it is a proven scientific fact that 99.999 % of the light around us is invisible.

Donna Eden has the ability of seeing energy with her eyes.

This past weekend I attended her workshop.  She is so vibrant, energetic, charismatic, and beautiful!  I don’t think I stopped smiling for 48 hours.  Donna is going to be 68 years old next month-- and she clearly has the energy of a 24 year old!  She laughs without hesitation, smiles with delight like a child, and is passionate--about nearly everything.  She wraps herself in the present like no one I’ve seen before.  Her attention is so focused on the present-- it’s no wonder she is able to see energy clearly.

She can look at a person, see exactly where there is insufficient energy flowing and restore the flow.  She once had a practice of over 10,000 clients.  She now shares her unique style of seeing energy with millions of people. During a workshop, she spends almost the entire time calling people up to the stage, revealing their personal energy dysfunction, and fixing it on stage in front of everyone!

Donna translates what she sees energetically (which is invisible to many of us) into a visible and tangible demonstration which is called energy (muscle) testing.  Simply put, energy testing is measuring the degree to which energy is flowing through a particular area in the body using the arm as an indicator.  This system can be used by anyone.  And can be used to treat dis-ease and enhance well being.  Donna has overcome dyslexia, multiple sclerosis, a heart attack at 24, food allergies and many other health complications.  Amazing!!!

One of the exercises Donna teaches helps children with learning difficulties.  It was discovered in New Zealand that children were not suffering from the same learning disabilities as other children around the world.  They found these children were playing a game that included making figure eights around their body.  Amazingly, this action has been shown to “unscramble” energies because it is guiding the energy from one side of the brain to the opposite side of the body-- and this promotes focus and retention!

They also found that kids who suck their thumb (even for a few moments), were less disruptive in class.  This action corresponds with the action of linking central and governing meridians--which is known to have a calming, centering effect.

Here’s something else to think about... a person with multiple personalities can have a personality that is allergic to peanuts and all other personalities are not.  Studies have shown that a person can be experiencing an allergic reaction (such as hives) under one personality and upon switching personalities, immediately show no signs of that allergic reaction.

If energy isn’t related to illness or dis-ease, how could all this be possible?

Chasin' the Sky

"During meditation your metabolism and your breath rate go down to a level of rest, twice that of deep sleep." ~ Mike Love

Meditation.  There.  I said it.  It seems like a dirty word-- doesn’t it?  I know when I first started meditating I was wondering how I would calm my mind.  It use to take me about an hour and a half to fall asleep, now--about 11 seconds.

Realizing your mind is something you can control is a daunting yet powerful concept.  Many of us are not up to the challenge.  Many of us don’t have time, can’t do it, and we don’t know how to do it.  But!  Meditation creates time!

Research has shown meditators, on average, regardless of age, visit the doctor half as often as the average American!  Meditators also had 87.3% fewer admissions to the hospital for heart disease, and 55.4 % fewer admissions for benign and malignant tumors of all types--the two leading causes of death in Americans!  You can’t get results like these from prescription drugs!

Meditation specifically aids in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol--which helps avoid a heart attack and stroke.  According to insurance companies, blood pressure levels prove to be a good indicator of life expectancy.  An average American with normal blood pressure is expected to live 16 years longer than one with moderate blood pressure.  Meditation has proven to help people drop from moderate blood pressure to normal blood pressure--giving the gift of a longer life!  Incredible! (Perfect Health, Deepak Chopra, pg. 164-167)

That’s not all!  Mediation aids in weight loss, brain function, immune function and reversal of the aging process!  Plus its been shown to help you find your life’s purpose!

Many wonder how long do you need to meditate a day?  Well, Dr. Oz believes all it takes is 7 mins a day to receive the benefits of meditation. Making the commitment to meditate is the most important step in receiving the benefits.  I can pretty much guarantee that once you dedicate the time, you will want to do it more.  It just feels soooooo good.  The inner peace is wonderful.  After mediation I feel calm, content, and happy--all pretty great feelings.

Many people don’t know how to meditate, and that’s ok.  Meditation is about working with your brain waves.  When doing an activity we are really familiar with we go into “auto-pilot.”  Running, brushing our teeth, and driving a car long distances are all examples of this.  Parts of the brain slip into Theta waves during these activities.  Maintaining Theta waves is the goal in meditation.

A beginner meditator should find calming music, focus on breathing (the out breath is particularly relaxing), and be gentle with yourself.  Meditation isn’t easy.  Just as you would train your mind to play a sport, the piano, or learn a language, you need to develop the neural pathways for meditation too.  The more you practice anything, the better you get at it because you are reinforcing the neural pathways (the connections that send information around the brain and through the body).

If you can’t stop the one million thoughts from bombarding your brain it’s ok.  In time, you will learn to set these thoughts aside. This method is described as non-directive meditation because you are developing the ability to “tolerate the spontaneous wandering of the mind without getting too much involved”--meaning you don’t have to make the mind blank! You just need to learn how to let thoughts “pass effortlessly” (Brain Waves and Meditation, ScienceDaily Mar. 31, 2010).

While "meditation is painful in the beginning... it bestows immortal bliss and supreme joy in the end” and worth the try (Swami Sivananda).

The Prayer

"Your mind can only hold one thought at a time. Make it a positive and constructive one." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

This time of year is beautiful!  It’s a time for reflection, granting wishes, and a time for sharing moments.  For some, this time of year can be a struggle--both financially and personally.

If you are someone who is finding it difficult to give monetarily, I have something to share with you.

The power of prayer.  Large scientific studies have confirmed both prayer and distance healing to have a greater effect than chance.  In a study published in 2001, a group of mothers in a fertility clinic in Korea were divided into two groups.  One group was prayed for and the other was not.  These prayers were sent over great distances (from the USA, Canada, and Australia) from people of all religions and cultures to the fertility clinic.  This effort resulted in nearly doubling the amount of pregnancies from in vitro fertilization in the group that was prayed for.  The pregnancy rates went from 26% to 50%!  No one even knew who was being prayed for in the clinic until the study was completed.  Incredible! And there are several other studies that support the power of prayer and intent! (The Human Antenna, Dr. Robin Kelly pg. 74)

What we are talking about here is energy!  Everything is comprised of energy--including thoughts!   Scientists have discovered (from EEGs) that our brains emit different frequencies of waves.  They are Alpha, Beta, Delta and Theta.  Each brain wave serves a different purpose in our life.  We learn in Beta, we sleep in Delta, we meditate in Alpha, and we transcend in Theta.  Quantum physicists are discovering that the Theta waves are linked with the feeling of Oneness.  They have found that this is the state that energy healers, psychics, mediums, and experienced meditators are in when they are sending and receiving universal information.  We know, from scientific research that waves continue endlessly through time.

This holiday season, wrap your thoughts in positivity and know that you have positively effected those near and far--and eternity.  What could be better?

My Heart Will Go On

"Far across the distance, And spaces between us, You have come to show you go on..."  -Celine Dion

I’m quiet baffled by the number of people who are coming to me reporting that the doctors are “mystified” and “can’t figure out” what’s going on in a particular body.  These cases seem to make sense to me even before I start listening to their energetic system.

Hearing a few symptoms, recalling different energy modalities and tuning into the energetic body creates an obvious map to wellness (at least better-ness).  Even my massage book talks about the benefits of energy work --giving substantial credit to Reflexology, Acupuncture, Chakras, Meridians, and their energetic emotional components in creating wellness.  I wish doctors were given just a little more instruction about  the general mapping and linking of emotions and physical symptoms-- we might find a more well-rounded approach to wellness. We all have different experiences, which makes us unique! How could one scope of medicine treat all of us the same?  It can’t.

I keep seeing a pattern of doctors saying “Well, take this medicine, maybe it’ll work.”  Come on docs! Stop over prescribing! Masking a symptom is not treating the cause!  Get to the root of the illness--especially considering there are over 100,000 deaths a year due to people taking prescriptions as suggested by their doctors.

I may seem like I’m ranting, but I am mystified. I can’t comprehend how doctors need to spend so much time in medical school without studying the energetic component of the body. Some doctors and skeptics don’t believe in energy work because it hasn’t been proven by Western medical research--but the truth is, it is being researched, and we are getting closer to a marriage of the two.  Skeptics also say, they can’t see how it works. I’d like to say, do you have any clue how text messages are sent and received?  Or how the NY Giants appear in your living room Monday nights throughout the fall?

Sometimes all we have is faith--and Guinea pigs.  No seriously, Eastern medicine has been so successful in mapping the energetic system because they’ve studied living human beings!  Beings containing energy!  Western medicine studies cadavers--beings without energy.  Now it is easy to see why they are in the dark about energy!

Here’s a pretty powerful example of how emotional energy is stored within the body and transferred energetically.  You may recall, the heart is 5000x as energetically strong as the brain.

There was a 5 year old boy named Daryl who received a heart transplant from a young boy named Thomas (nicknamed Tim by his parents).

Upon an interview with Daryl, the 5 year old recipient, (with no prior knowledge about his donor), said, “I gave the boy [donor] a name. He's younger than me and I call him 'Timmy'. He's just a little kid. He's a little brother like about half my age. He got hurt bad when he fell down. He likes Power Rangers a lot, I think, just like I used to. I don't like them anymore, though."

After the surgery, Daryl’s mother found out that Tim fell trying to reach a Power Ranger toy that had fallen on the ledge of the window.  She also reported that Daryl won't even touch his Power Rangers following the surgery.  Woah!

When the donor and recipient families met, Tim’s mother immediately recognized the recipient because he had the same crooked smile her son had.  Pretty amazing stuff!! (Memory Transfer Between Organ Transplants, By Paul Pearsall, PhD, Gary E. Schwartz, PhD, Linda G. Russek, PhD).

If you're interested, there are many cases like this one.  Check out .

Ok, now that I’ve got that out I can calm down.  No need to store that frustration in my liver.

“Happiness is something we create.” ~Sugarland

People often look at me and wonder why I am so damn happy.  They want what I’m having!  But the truth is, how could I not?  I’ve had a pretty incredible life-- from the beginning.

Gratitude became ingrained in my little being when my younger brother and best friend was born with a bi-lateral cleft lip and palate-- among other health conditions. What is amazing is that his very tiny body decided to fight for life and we are all better people because he did.  That little boy chose to wake up every day without complaining-- becoming a pillar of strength not only in our family but in our community.  He seemed to be born with the inner wisdom of knowing he had a choice.  His choice was to accept what he could not change and to do it gracefully.  For 17 years I did not see him feel sorry for himself-- not even once!  He had over 40 surgeries and countless hospitalizations.  When you grow up with that kind of strength it is hard not to be strong yourself.  You also develop a unique perspective on life--one where you are grateful that’s not you--that you don’t have to “suck it up” and not know why.  Despite all this, we treated Joey like he was one of us, but the truth is, none of us could compete with his caliber.

Happiness is a choice and we all have so much to be thankful for.

Be Yourself

“Are you strong enough to be yourself...” ~Enrique Iglesias

I love what I do!  I love the way I think.  I (now) love that for years people looked at me funny because I thought differently. If I didn’t think differently, I wouldn’t be able to look at someone’s physical body and see how their emotional and spiritual bodies are creating their current physical status.  I wouldn’t have just been able to give a multi-dimensional reading to someone in a hospital.

For years I wondered why I didn’t fit in.  I remember being in 4th grade on the playground and wondering why the girls would bicker everyday.  They were so mean to each other-- and they were friends!  My twin sister would have a different best friend every day!  I remember thinking, how do they do that?

For much of my childhood I observed.  I was trying to understand behavior.  I observed partly because I couldn’t out shine my twin sister (she was very loud and boisterous), partly because I was nearly invisible in my family (I remember occasionally raising my hand at the dinner table in an attempt to be heard), but mostly because I was extremely curious about human behavior.  I needed to understand.  I thought, if I understand them, maybe I’ll understand me.  It wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I really began to understand me.

That year I suffered a bi- lateral fracture of my L-5 (lower back), and a pinched disk above it from playing soccer.  OUCH!   It took the doctors 2 months to properly diagnose me.  It was only in my persistence (from intuitive guidance) and my Mom listening to me (thanks Mom!), that I was able to get a proper diagnosis.

Upon my diagnosis, the doctor told me I probably wouldn’t heal.  He informed my 16 year old ears, that I would “never be able to play sports again,” never have a “sit-down job” or “stand-up job.”   I left his office in pieces.  I was offered surgery that would permanently alter my spine or I could “rough” it and see how my body would heal.  I decided to rough it-- knowing what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.  I would spend the next 9 months on bed rest, with a body brace, and a bone stimulator--and not go to the junior prom.

This may sound crazy, but I’m really glad that happened.  Removing me from school offered me the opportunity to learn without feeling self-conscious about the way I was thinking.  I was able to devote a 100% of my attention to my studies and I found that I loved school!  I had to teach myself a lot of the material in order to keep up-- and I loved that!  That’s when I decided I wanted to be a teacher and also realized, the “dumb blonde” stereotype that plagued me, was holding me back from my potential!  I started to appreciate my differences rather than hiding them.

I also realized the importance of visualization, patience, and hope that year. When I left the swanky N.Y.C. doctor’s office I refused to believe his prediction for the rest of my life.  I adamantly decided to ignore his “expertise.”  I spent many nights dreaming about playing soccer and visualizing myself healing.  When I showed up for my last doctors visit-- my doctor was stunned.  He informed me the radiologist had just called his office to speak to him directly because she couldn’t believe I was the same girl who had broken her back.  My doc informed me I had managed to heal my back and make it stronger than it was before.  Needless to say, it wasn’t long before I was back on the field where I’ve been playing for the last 12 years.

I think Dr. Seuss sums it up best, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Desert Rose

“Keep in touch with yourself kid!”    ~my Dad

I’m in Fabulous Las Vegas!  Gazing from the 58th floor I have the most beautiful panoramic view of a mountain range. Their rich chocolaty color etched with exquisite detail from weathering and time.  All of them seemingly placed without effort in this vast desert and endless sky.  It reminds me of just how insignificant things really are.

Several years ago I took a road-trip through the Southwest and that’s when I fell in love.  At sunset, the reds and oranges echoing off the mountains and sky were breathtaking.  It felt like an embrace from God.

On that road-trip we stopped in Sedona and I decided to do something crazy.  I went out into the desert with a 6 foot 5 Shaman whom I’d never met before! This was a clear case of me blindly following my intuition--but what an experience!

The first part of our meeting didn’t go so well (part one was in his office, part two was a hike).  He started by asking a lot of personal questions.  He just skipped over the small talk and pleasantries (which is common among psychics because part of the intuition process is bypassing the frontal lobe which means they are now operating without a (social) filter).   Because of this, I found myself acting defensive and he commented on it.  I said, “To be quiet honest, you’re a man, I just met you and I’d rather just go out in the desert with you and do this.”  I couldn’t believe the words that just came out of my mouth!  He obliged and soon we were heading to the desert in his old, dusty, red pick-up truck and I was thinking, I hope I don’t die.

When we started, he began by introducing us to the plants, trees and animals.  He kept referring to three of us being there. I kept thinking, who the heck is he referring to?  I wasn’t about to argue with a man talking to plants about how many of us were really there.  Needless to say, it took me a while not to laugh at this process but I soon began to enjoy the experience.  I thought, we should introduce ourselves (however many of “us” are here).

After sometime I even began to like this guy.  He’d ask me to sense things I’d never tuned into before.  He’d show me a vortex (an Earth energy center) so I could feel it.  Then I’d have to find one of my own.  It was fun to experience nature in a totally different way!  I even “spoke” to a Grandmother tree.

Soon we came upon a clearing, where he decided we were going to use a drum and the mountains to clear blocked energy from me.  At the time I had no idea what that meant but I trusted the process-- and I’m glad I did!  Moments later, I was doubled over holding my stomach wondering how mountains and a drum could make me want to throw up.  He asked me to step out of the pain I was feeling and to see the root of the pain.  That’s when I saw a black ball sitting inside my energetic body.  I grasped this ball and set it beside me.  The pain stopped.  He asked me to peel back the color on the ball--it was now white.  He asked me to reach inside the ball and pull out what was inside.  I did.   Much to my surprise, I reached in and found me-- around the age of 4 in a white, flowy, nightgown.  Wow!  Didn’t expect that!  I had found our third hiker!

This experience in the desert was amazing because it taught me trust the process even though it is sometimes very scary and to keep in touch with my inner (4 year old) child--my soul.

“You will find the answer if you let it go.”  -Sarah Mclachlan

So you may have heard of the Law of Attraction from me, Oprah, or the Secret.  Either way, it’s a term that has made it into mainstream and is causing a lot of mixed emotions.  Some are relieved to have found the “answer” while others have tried it with no avail.  So what is the Law of Attraction exactly? And how do you use it?

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like.  The best way I have heard it describe was when my friend Gemma (thanks Gem!) said the Law of Attraction is like ordering a burger at a diner.  You tell the waitress what you want exactly (grilled bun, medium-well, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and pickle).  After the waitress leaves your table you resume a conversation with friends and low and behold 20 mins later your burger comes out exactly as you wanted it!  Perfect!

The same types of feelings you have in generating your burger are the same you should have when asking the almighty Universe for a red Porshe.  When you order your burger at a diner it is very likely that your burger is going to come out great, so it’s easy to believe you will get it.  Why is that belief important?  In order to activate the the Law of Attraction you have to believe that it is possible for you to get it.  You also have to know exactly what you want.  Often times in life we are not sure of what we want, so things don’t manifests the way we want them to.   I remember when Elizabeth Gilbert, in Eat, Pray, Love wrote about George wanting an “open heart,” and ended up having open heart surgery!  Or when a friend of mine said she wanted to “fall in love in 2010” and did-- only to have it unrequited!  The more you are sure of (exactly) what you want and believe you can have it, the more likely it is going to come to you.

Once the waitress leaves your table, there is no anxiety (or shouldn’t be!) that she is going to deliver the message to the cook and eventually get your burger to you. There shouldn’t be any anxiety about receiving the object of your desire either!  Essentially, anxiety is screaming out (energetically) I need to control this!  I might not get this!  I won’t get this!  That energy is so catastrophic to this recipe of desire!  The energy that is being emitted into the environment is going to bring back exactly what is sent out (remember like attracts like). Oops! Sometimes we as humans also have feelings like we don’t deserve something, which also keeps you from receiving.

So how does this relate to energy medicine and the body?  Taking a step back and looking at the energy of the body will help explain the relationship between energy and the Law of Attraction.  Remember Bruce Lipton and his experiment with a cell without a nucleus gravitated towards the nutritious apple?  That experiment taught us that every cell in the body has the ability to sense the environment (it is sending and receiving information).  So if there is a thought of anxiety, it carries a frequency, and that frequency will be sensed within the cell and communicated to the next cell, and the next cell, and the next cell!  Until you literally become a ball of anxiety!  Have you ever noticed “when it rains, it pours?” --Like when you are having bad day and it just seems to get worse!  Change your vibration and it will stop raining!

So how do we do that?  To start off, filling your mind with positive thoughts and feelings is a great way to immediately change your vibrational status.  The Secret, offereda great tip of placing a “Gratitude” rock in your pocket.  Every time you touch the rock, you should say something you are thankful for.  This exercise both releases soothing hormones and gets you in a more relaxed (parasympathetic) state.

Additionally, filling your body with high vibrating foods such as organic fruits and vegetables and exercising the body will help safe guard a fall from a higher vibrational status.  Also, meditating, massage, and energy work will do the same--how surprising!

If you are still not convinced that your thoughts are this powerful, consider the study done at Princeton University that was done on the ability to influence Random Event Generators (REGs).  Scientists started noticing a phenomenon where groups of people who share a ticket are more likely to win the lottery. This study gathered several people, told them to try to influence the REGs and they did!  This study has been repeated thousands of times with thousands of people and yields statistically significant results (Human Antenna, Dr. Robin Kelly, pg 76).  There is strength in numbers!

Did you hear about the study that looked at crime in Washington, D.C.?  This study had subjects meditate on peace in Washington, D.C. for a 8 weeks.  The rate of violent crimes dropped 23% in the 8 week period!  The odds of this result occurring by chance are less than 2 in 1 billion. Scrupulous statistical analyses ruled out an extensive list of alternative explanations (Social Indicators Research - Volume 47, Issue 2, June 99).

I hope this gives a whole new meaning to, “I think, there for I am.” ~René Descartes.

Cleanin' Out My Closet

“I never meant to make you cry, but tonight I'm cleanin' out my closet...” ~Eminem

It feels great to do spring cleaning.  We donate clothes, tidy up and the house feels amazing!  It is lighter and cleaner.  According to Feng Shui, when we do this we are getting rid of stagnant energy which allows for more prosperity to flow into our life.  Who doesn’t want that?!

Our bodies also benefit from spring cleaning. When I work on a client I clear out unnecessary energy from the chakras and balance them, but I also feel energetic imprints on the energetic body.  So, what are energetic imprints?  They are imprints (like a fingerprint) that are left on your energetic body when we experience something emotionally.  The emotion becomes part of us if the body does not process this emotion fully.  Western medicine would suggest talking about the emotions and releasing them that way.  I find this method falls short especially when someone is not aware of a feeling they are having.  We have an unbelievable ability to suppress emotions and feelings. In fact, many scientists and psychologist are finding out that the mind is much more powerful than we ever thought!  This type of healing is more multi-dimensional.

As I’ve discussed in earlier blogs, the emotions translate into the body on a physical level through the release of hormones, but they also translate into the energetic body through imprints.  I see these imprints and can feel how they manifested.  Essentially, each imprint has an emotional component.  For instance, I might feel an imprint and it is related to a divorce that happened 12 years earlier.  I also may feel a nasty break up that is so intertwined in the energetic body that is so large, it is pressing on the chest (hence the feeling of “having a weight on your chest,” or “having to get something off your chest”).  What I do for clients is remove these imprints.  You are probably thinking, how is that possible and does it really work? Well let me explain...

In acupuncture and acupressure, the purpose of the treatment is to get the energy flowing around the body in it’s optimal way.  Chinese medicine is based on the theory that the body has major meridians (like highways) that supply energy to various parts of the body.  If one of these meridians becomes blocked, subsequent areas of the body (such as organs!) will be receiving less energy--yikes!  Additionally, what is cool about Chinese medicine is that major intersections of these meridians corresponds to major overlappings of muscles in the body.  Just like a car sitting in the middle of an intersection slows down or stops traffic, so does blocked energy in the meridians!

When I am working on a client I often find emotional energy trapped in the armpit area and chest.  Interestingly, these are major intersections of muscles, but also the lung meridian points are in this area which also corresponds with the heart chakra.  (Remember, the heart chakra is related to love and grief.)  Also, part of the lymph system is here as well (but I’ll explain why that’s cool too in a minute).  So when I am working in this area, I am working on three different levels, which is why people are so sensitive in this area.

Energetic imprints in these areas look like a dense, gray cloudy matter in the shape of an oval or a bean.  They usually are attached to the body by a cord, and can be connected to other similar imprints.  Basically, they look very similar to the lymph nodes that sort through the toxins in your system and keep you healthy.  The cool thing about this is that you have another system to help keep you emotionally healthy (thus physically healthy)!  This energetic system catches these floating emotions that have not been fully processed by the heart and mind.  What’s interesting is if there is a build up of these energetic imprints (aka “emotional baggage”) in the armpit area and chest, the person can feel sick, lethargic, and depressed. If there is a build up of toxins in the body the person can feel sick, lethargic and depressed too!  Very interesting!

When I have found an energetic imprint that is no longer serving a client, I discuss what I am feeling, ask them to validate the feeling, and ask for permission to remove the energetic imprint.  Usually, people want the imprint removed (not always! we like what is comfortable for us! it’s like an old ratty shirt you can’t part with).  At that point, I literally take the energetic imprint off the energetic body to be recycled into a more useful energy (energy cannot be created or destroyed). Upon removal, many times a client will cry, sigh, or sob and can feel me removing the energy.  Often it is described like feeling tugging on the body and can feel uncomfortable.  What you should understand is, I am not actually touching the body at this point.  All sensations are coming from the energetic body!

Amazingly, my clients report feeling lighter, and energy flowing better in their bodies.   It is the emotional release with the energetic release that provides that maximum benefit for the client.  Many of my clients report wonderful life changes occurring in the few days following the removal. That is because the energy is no longer stuck in their body and they are now vibrating on a higher level-- which brings me to the Law of Attraction...

“When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.” ~Wayne Dyer

It’s not about you.

As a teacher I learned it is not about you.  Everyone is on their own path--plugging along just as clueless as you (for the most part).  They hit speed bumps, terrible experiences, and struggles with love and relationships.  The more you respect this rule, “It’s not about you,” the more self-esteem you’ll likely have.  It provides a lens to view the world and the actions of those around you and you start to see how it really isn’t about you.  So what am I talking about?

When I was a teacher I worked with students with emotional disturbances.  Everyday I would go in and my ego would be tested (are you seeing a theme here?).  I’d say to the students, “Please take out your pen and paper and begin writing down the notes for today.”  Many times, I’d get a response like, “Go f--k yourself you white f---ing b-tch!” Hmmm, nice!

At first, my reaction was of shock.  Gasp! I never talked to an adult like that!  Plus, I was just asking them to take out a pen and paper to take notes for Pete’s sake!  A simple task-- with a please!  It only took several times of having my ego stamped on, that I started to look at the situation more objectively.  That’s when I started to laugh (instead of cry!).  I didn’t deserve a response like that and I was stupid to think that their response was really about me!  Of course it wasn’t!  It was really about what I represented to them, or it was a reflection of what they learned about treating someone, or about the fact that many of them could barely read and write.  Either way--it wasn’t about me.

This really got me thinking.  Why was I so shocked at that behavior, after all, they were classified as students with emotional disturbances (whatever that means).  I was shocked because I had an expectation of the way to be treated.  But that was my expectation that I placed on them.  I started thinking, is that really fair that I had an expectation on them they didn’t even know about.  Would they have still responded in that fashion if I had allowed them access to my expectation?  Who knows, but I started to realize that my disappointments in life were directly related to the expectations I had place on people. In addition, I’ve found myself a lot more satisfied because I rarely get disappointed by people.

The equation is simple. The more self-esteem you have, the less ego you have. The more ego you have the less self-esteem you have.  That’s just the way it is.  They are proportional.  You can’t raise one without the other falling.  That’s because when ego is the lens you view the world with, it’s all about you --and truthfully, it’s not all about you.

Thank You

"I firmly believe that intuitive or symbolic sight is not a gift but a skill --a skill based in self-esteem." ~ Caroline Myss

Recently I was working on a new friend of mine and totally enjoying it.  I love being in the zone--channelling this beautiful energy, knowing that I am helping her body physically, spiritually, and emotionally. To me, the emotional and spiritual body are one and the same.  They are energetically intertwined.  Emotions are rapped up (sometimes tightly!) in the chakras.  I promise to share all my knowledge of the chakras at a later time, but for now, chakras are basically energy centers located close to the body and correlate with major intersections of nerves. I want you to be able to see how emotions, the chakras, and listening to your body are all related because I use information to help my clients.

I started working on my friend because she was experiencing pain in her middle back.  It was also causing her ribs to hurt.  As soon as I reached the area, I could see exactly what I needed to do.  I could literally see her ribs and the muscle that was slightly torn (because I can do this, I am considered a Medical Intuitive--but not a doctor!).  I could also feel the bottom four chakras out of balance.  As l’ve mentioned before, spontaneous illness is unlikely the cause, so I started to listen to what her body was telling me so I could see what may have lead up to this muscle being torn.

That’s when I started feeling anxious, protective, like I was battling something, worried about finances and alone. Whoa!  That’s a lot of emotions!  So how was this information related to the imbalances in her body?  Each of those feelings corresponds to a chakra.  Rather than standing over her and continuing to try to make sense of what was going on, I decided to tell her what I was feeling and describe the imbalances in her chakras.

Low and behold I was making sense (maybe I haven’t lost my mind)!  My friend revealed that her brother had passed 11 months earlier, and there was a financial battle over his estate.  She also said she has been dealing with the financial aspect of his death for so long that her body hasn’t had the space to grieve. So, exactly how are these emotions effecting the body?

Here’s how these emotions translate into the body spiritually speaking.  The base chakra (first chakra) is related to family, second chakra (in the back) is related to finances, third chakra is related to power, and fourth chakra is related to love and grief.  All four of her chakras were responding to the emotional things in her life--family, finances, power, grief and love.  After discussing these things, she could see how her muscle in her back became vulnerable and eventually torn.  There was an overall weakness  in the area that paved a path for dis-ease!  Her torn muscle (pain) is her body signaling that certain emotions need to be processed and released.  This is why I worry when Western doctors prescribe pain relievers without addressing the whole body (mind, body and spirit).  Pain is your body talking to you!  So the next time you have a headache or your neck is sore, ask yourself, what is my body trying to tell me?  Listening to your body will probably help you avoid disease!  How great!!!

Once I balanced my friends chakras and made a few suggestions she could do for herself, I was off on my way-- always grateful for the opportunity to help someone and to bring more clarity and peace into their lives.

“We all are born, we all die, and here's the secret...we all need each other in between." ~Morrie (from Tuesdays with Morrie)

The book that happened to fall in my lap was Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse. This novel is about a man who is searching for inner peace through giving up his worldly possessions (what a gambler!).  He later became known as Buddha.

His journey inspired me to formulate a tangible way of illustrating the important connection between mind, body, and spirit and the energetic exchange that is constantly happening.  Balancing the supply and demand of your body’s energy puts you on the path to true well-being.

I call this balancing act an Energy Packets Theory.  For the sake of a visual, think of these packets like sugar packets.  Someone who eats healthily, exercises, meditates, and gets a good nights sleep daily would wake up with a lot of energy packets!  Who doesn't want that?  Someone who indulged in a double cheese burger and forgot to go to the gym the day before (ut oh!), would have less energy packets to get through the day.  The truth is, we all become lackadaisical in caring for our mind, body and spirit at some point. The key is to offset the imbalances when they occur (I'm sure you Libras are great at this!).

Throughout the day we spend our packets on different situations and people.  What we need to do is to use our packets wisely and gain them through things that make us feel better.  Many of us have things we “have to do,” so we can anticipate releasing energy packets for those things (sucks, doesn't it).  However, it is important to replenish our energy packets through things like taking a walk on the beach, devouring a slice of watermelon on a hot summer day, or sitting quietly with coffee contemplating life. Indulging in the things you love and feeding your mind with positive thoughts will help bring about inner peace.  After all, some of the best things in life are free (ahhhhh).

Taking time for yourself is about self love.  If we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t have enough energy to care for others.  I learned this when I was teaching the inner city kids classified with emotional disturbances (yikes is right!).  If I wasn’t feeling 100%, the students could just smell the weakness within me.  They would pounce on my emotional instability and devour me like I was prey.  I learned very quickly, that it wasn’t worth trying to teach when I wasn’t feeling top notch!

So what are the frivolous ways we expend our packets?   Often, we lose our energy without even knowing it!  For instance, our grip on the way things should have been literally tires us out.  When you worry about something, or wish you could change something that happened in the past,  you are flushing your packets down the toilet!  It’s the same as having someone do an automatic withdrawal from your energy bank account each day before you even get up!  This is considered an “energy leak” and is seen as an actual energetic cord coming out of the body by those who see energy--quite literally holding you back.

This is why it is important to look at the people whom you surround yourself with.  Our friends and family are like an energy insurance policy.  If we need a few packets to help pick us up, we can call our loved ones and they are happy to get us back on track to feeling better (they've got nothing better to do anyway).  And vice versa.  It is the people whom we feel “drained” after being with that we need to be wary of.  Those people are only taking energy packets and not replacing them, so we need to adjust our relationship with them to preserve our reserves!

For many of us who have become overwhelmed by the demands of life, our goal simply becomes to “just get through the day.” If this is the case, you are likely not replenishing the packets you are loosing. The more you feel like you are becoming depleted of the vital energy that supplies you, the more your body will feel the scarcity of what is happening.  This causes your body to go into the Fight or Flight mode.  In reality, the mind literally down shifts into what is called “Reptilian Brain.”  The name says it all.  Your body has slipped into survival mode (and has released cortisol).  This is when you become less articulate and make irrational decisions because you are quite literally consumed with your survival.  That’s why during a verbal fight with someone, you can’t quite explain your point of view.  Your body has shut down important functions like digestion in hopes of supplying enough energy to get your butt out of that terrible situation!  You may have even experienced the “Ah Ha!” moment after the fight, where you have formulated the best comeback in your life.  You think to yourself, “Why didn’t I think to say that?”   It is because your brain has now shifted out of Reptilian Brain and you can think clearly, whereas before you were focused on survival. Pheeeew!

Lastly, we need to be sure that we are gaining high quality, long lasting energy packets! Sounds yummy!  Sometimes things can masquerade as high quality energy packets.  For instance, shopping is a way of gaining low quality energy packets, because the truth is a shopping high doesn’t last quite as long as a runner’s high, nor does it have the same beneficial effects on the body (wishful thinking!).  Continuing to choose booze over berries is another recipe for disease.  If you want to receive high quality energy packets, get some Reiki!  Reiki comes from an inexhaustible resource!  Awesome!  I'm looovin' it!

The bottom line here is  take that walk, spend the extra time with the kids---happiness is something we create!  So make the choice to rehabilitate your energetic system in efficient ways.  Health and happiness come from within. When it comes from within, it cannot be taken away.  Thank you Siddhartha for teaching me this.
