It's Electric

“Thousands of emotions well up inside me throughout the day. They are released when I dance.”  ~Abraham Lincoln

A lot of wonderful things have happened in my life—-some considered miracles.

Years ago, I was making a house call to a boisterous older Italian lady. Her personality filled the room along with her laughter and the essence of home cooked food. I felt like I was part of “The Family.”

She explained that in the last few years, her mobility has significantly declined—and was diagnosed with severe arthritis in her knees. She no longer was able to enjoy her walks to the cemetery to visit her late husband—he simply struggled to just get out of a chair.

She told me stories of when she used to enjoy cooking and dancing with her husband. These stories lit up her face and brought tears to mine. She clearly missed him.

As we talked, I began seeing the connection between her emotions and the manifestation of her arthritis. She didn’t feel safe, her heart was breaking, and she felt like the part that completed her was missing. She even admitted to not taking enough time to grieve his death.

It made sense that her arthritis became worse after her husbands passing and why she no longer found joy in many things. It appeared she was having trouble moving on with her life---both mentally and physically.

What followed was a m-i-r-a-c-l-e.

When I began the session I found much of the energy being drawn to her knees. First, I started with one knee. Then the other. I saw mini chakras that had developed around each knee and the meridians that run from the knee to the toes. I understood my role in relieving the energetic congestion there. While finishing up on her right leg, a jolt of energy came out of my left middle finger to her knee that made a buzzing noise and a blue spark! This sensation felt like electricity---I know this, because I have so brilliantly stuck my finger in an outlet before! Nothing of this magnitude had ever happened before in my healings. I wondered if I had actually electrocuted her! I glanced up to see if she was in pain---thankfully a peaceful expression blanked her face. Phewww...

As I continued to work I could see an injury from her early twenties in her ankle. It appeared to part of an accident with a car door— sure enough, she explained a car door was slammed on her ankle in her early twenties! This injury was impeding the flow of energy to her knees, so I cleared the trauma and realigned the energy. It always amazes me how long the body will hold on to trauma. That energy and information (injury) was over 50 years old!

After I finished up the healing I spoke to her about the electrical shock—she was indeed aware of it! I asked her why she wasn’t afraid of the shock and she said, “I just trusted it was supposed to happen!” Wow!

After debriefing her on my findings, I informed her that her late husband was present during the healing session. He had his arm wrapped around her shoulders to comfort her during the session. She was thrilled to know that he was close to her and remarked how he had always wrapped his arm around her when they were together.

When it was time to say goodbye, she stood up with ease and exclaimed, “I don’t have pain anymore! I’m going to go for a walk around the block! Maybe I’ll go all the way to the cemetery!” We laughed, and I told her to not over do it as her body adjusts to the new energy and frequency. She agreed a walk on the block was a safe bet for now.

What happened in this healing turned out to be the perfect dance between her mind, body and spirit, and a perfect example of a miracle.

****I just want to take a moment to share how honored I feel when those who have passed present themselves in healings. Their energy is so pure, loving, and their messages so clear and healing. It is hard to describe how lucky I feel to be able to connect to them during healings and be in their presence. It’s humbling and honoring at the same time. Sometimes it instantly makes me cry because the beauty, clarity and love is so overwhelming.****

Energetic Growth Spurt

"Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics." ~Albert Einstein

Instantaneous healings?!

Sounds to good to be true---even for me!  I had to check out Reconnective Healing. Dr. Eric Pearl developed the “technique”---for lack of a better word.  He was a chiropractor in L.A. who was guided (intuitively) to do a little extra healing after each of his chiropractic sessions.  He had no idea why he had an urge to wave his hands over a person’s body, but when he did, people were miraculously healing.  People who couldn’t walk---were walking.  People with diseases---cured.  Tumors---gone.

His ability caught the attention of several scientists and medical docs.  Everyone seemed to want to explain how and why this was happening!

I bought The Reconnection book, began reading it and soon booked the workshop.  I had to see first hand what this was all about!

Dr. Eric Pearl promises that a change happens as soon as you pick up the book and invite this type of healing into your life.  He claims that this technique is new and is delivering light and information to the client (instead of energy).  I was a bit skeptical until I started noticing some peculiar things.

As I got closer to the workshop (and still reading the book), I found myself being guided to do things out of the norm in my healing sessions.  I wasn’t quite sure why or where it came from because I hadn’t learned the Reconnective Healing technique yet.  Most people would probably be shocked they were doing a new technique at work like typing with their nose instead of their fingers---but I have gotten use to it.  That’s how almost all of my energy work has come to me.  I am guided to do certain things to benefit the client so I trust my intuition and go with it.

Shortly after one of my healing sessions, I was making dinner and the electric stove wouldn’t turn off.  I’ve gotten pretty use to electronic things acting funny around me.  It’s like a rite of passage for an energy worker.  Ipods shut off when I get startled, Blackberries become paralyzed when I get disappointing news, and treadmills shut off when I’m not feeling well.  This time, since it was the stove, and turning the dial to off didn’t work, I had to shut off the circuit breaker.  That didn’t even work until I shut off the circuit for the night!

When my energy starts effecting objects I take notice.  I know that there is an energetic shift taking place in my body and it could be one of two things--- I’m getting sick, or I’m going through an “energetic growth spurt.”  That means my energy is taking on a whole new vibration so my energy needs to acclimate.

This time I figured I must be going through an energetic growth spurt because the technical difficulties continued.  A gas fireplace turned itself on and off several times while I was visiting my sister and the power in a building went out when I was working on a client.  All of these things could be coincidences, except for other people in the workshop reported similar occurrences---indeed, my instructor had the same experience with a fireplace!

What’s even weirder (dare I say), is that the person receiving this energy work responds immediately by making involuntary movements.  Let me just tell you, I have never seen these types of movements from any of my clients prior to learning Reconnective Healing.  These movements are most definitely involuntary and the people making them generally are unaware they are doing it.  Also, some of Dr. Pearl’s clients began unconsciously talking during the session and repeating the same phrases other clients had said.  Fascinating!

All of this sounds like a circus act, but what’s amazing is the scientific research that supports these findings AND the claims of miraculous healings.

The research on this form of healing is becoming vast---here’s a snip it of the information available.  Scientists measured the ambient energy in the room before a Reconnective Healing workshop---during and after.  They found the ambient energy soared to the equivalent of raising the room temperature by 300 degrees Celsius---instantaneously!  (You may recall from high school physics that the hotter something is the more the atoms bounce around---this is sort of the same concept).  The scientists were shocked!

Also, scientist have studied the effects of Reconnective Healing Vs Reiki and other similar energy modalities.  They have found Reconnective Healing winds unravelled DNA where as other energy modalities do not.  They also found that Reconnective Healing extends life.  They found this using a Ginko leaf as a subject.  The control leaf lived 10-14 days, the leaf that received Reiki lived for 30 days, and the leaf with Reconnective Healing lived for 90 days.  Quite impressive!

There is no doubt in my mind that Reconnective Healing is effective and different from other healing modalities.

It is exciting that there is yet another option for healing!

Biohacking Your Purpose

A lot of people have been asking me why I decided to work with people with Parkinson’s. The short answer is because I knew I could help them. The longer version is ... Technically I shouldn’t be here (on Earth). I’ve almost died several times. I know it sounds dramatic—but it’s true. Sometimes we humans need these near death experiences like a kick in the pants—a reminder that we are meant to DO something here ---like being a part of something larger than your self.

So what does being a twin, a degree in psychology, teaching in the most dangerous school in NYC, and becoming an energy healer and coach have to do with each other? Seemingly nothing, but all of those experiences, plus more, have prepared me for today. Every single one of those things have helped me to trust my heart.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I was well on my way to finding my purpose when I was 26. The truth is, it wasn’t all that hard. I quickly realized the way to biohack your way to your purpose is by listening to your heart. I believe we all have something like a GPS system in our heart linked to our destiny with the most compelling—sometimes obnoxious—GPS lady, directing us to our destiny. Not listening to her will make you feel lost.

The latest example of me following my heart included me working with people with Parkinson’s. In February, I started volunteering at a boxing class for people with Parkinson’s on Saturday mornings because my heart was needing to give back.

This wasn’t some form of altruism. In fact, I don’t believe in altruism. I remember the day in college when my Evolutionary Psychology professor said, “There is no such thing as true altruism.” I remember being shocked. Ready to quit the class and tell him he was a moron. I was sad for humanity. I hated the idea that we weren’t doing something to help someone else just because we wanted to help. What I didn't realize in that moment was how PERFECT it all is. We all are in it together. We all need each other.  My professor was right—I couldn’t think of a single circumstance in my life where I helped and didn’t receive something—even if it was just contentment in my heart. So every Saturday morning at the boxing gym I was getting something. I felt good. I felt hopeful. I got to see determination and healing in action. I felt blessed. Sure, I helped them too—but that’s how we were ALL benefiting.

After several weeks of volunteering I decided I could give more. It was like a fire was lit in my belly. I grew hungry for living out my purpose, so I designed a study where I would offer 9 weeks of energy work to people with Parkinson’s in exchange for them filling out questionnaires each week rating their symptoms. Periodically in those 9 weeks, I checked in with my heart and I KNEW I was on the right path.

Every one of the participants benefited from the energy work to some degree. Two (out of 7) of the participants’ symptoms decreased approximately 80%! There were significant improvements in sleep, gait, balance, and fatigue, as well as improvements in pain from past and present injuries and a decrease in anxiety. (Click here to see the results of the study.)

So here I get to sit with the results. Here I sit reflecting upon the beautiful things I witnessed—people showing up—being present, open, and vulnerable. People improving beyond their wildest dreams. I’m the lucky one. Sometimes I ask myself, “How did I get here?” and the GPS lady says, “Because you followed your heart.”

I can’t wait till she tells me the next destination.

Parkinson's and Energy Work

So life has been pretty awesome lately.  I've recently gotten back into my energy healing practice and I'm loving it!  I love what I do and feel blessed to be able to work with my clients. In addition to working with my clients, I started volunteering at the Corner Boxing Club in Boulder where they have a program for people with Parkinson's.  Almost every Saturday I help at one of the stations where they are directed by me to go left, right or punch the bag.  It has been amazing working with these courageous people over the course of the last several months.  I have seen a transformation in just about every one of the participants.  I was so inspired by their dedication, that I decided it was the perfect time to offer an 8 week study, with 7 participants, on the effects of energy work on people with Parkinson's. So far we are in week two/three and I'm seeing some amazing things.  I'm noticing that people with Parkinson's have very similar energetic patterns.  In the past, no two energy sessions were ever similar--- and now I'm seeing the same energetic pattern over and over again--- so the same parts of the energetic body (thus the physical body) are having difficulty!  I'm also noticing that I need to work on certain parts of their body much longer than I would normally (like the brain).  Additionally I'm noticing the need to connect parts of their body and work with certain acupuncture points throughout the body.  This is all turning out to be pretty incredible. I don't know what the end result of the study will be, but I can't wait to find out!

Mamma Mia

"Mamma mia, it's a game we play Bye-bye doesn't mean forever." ~Mamma Mia

One of my clients suffered a stroke a couple of years earlier and has done a remarkable job of rehabilitating his mind and body.  When I work on him, we work out some of the “kinks.”  Some of the energy signals in his brain are still not making it to parts of the body so I help guide these connections.

When I first started working on him I surveyed his body to see where the stroke was and how it had effected his body.  I could see that the stroke happened on the left side of his brain, and effected a baseball sized area of his brain behind his ear.  It also effected movement on the right side of his body, face, mouth, speech, ability to write (specifically his thumb and pointer finger) and walk.

Working on him is always an amazing experience. When I send Reiki energy through the specific areas I can see the muscles twitching beneath the skin. To me, it appears that the Reiki energy activates connections in the effected muscles and nerves and sends the signal back to the brain.  Often, my clients will feel tingling, sensations of heat, and movement.

When I was working in his throat chakra (located over the throat), my entire face went numb and I couldn’t move my jaw or tongue.  This scared me until I realized it was his symptom from the stroke.  After I realized that, I was able to release the energy and concentrate on helping the brain, jaw and tongue fully reconnect.

While working on his hands, I began getting an itchy feeling between my pointer finger and thumb.  This kind of sensation signals to me I need to pay extra attention to the area. I began directing the energy from his brain, down his arm, and out his fingers.  When I no longer feel resistance (a clog) in the energy, I move on.

When I moved towards his waist, I immediately sensed a presence in the room-- and she felt pretty darn physically close to me.  I tuned into what I was feeling and soon realized this spirt was my client’s mother.  She was participating in the healing session-- but was also distracting me.

His mother is Italian.  Need I say more?  She’s the kind of mom who would start wiping something off your face with spit when you are trying to act cool in front of your friends.  She just didn’t care.  She would even vacuum his room when he was sleeping early in the morning because “she had things to do!”

I recognized his mother from a previous reading I had done for him.  She was, (surprise!), very close to her son, and repeatedly told me how much she loved her son, missed having pretzels with him after school and tucking him in at night.  She showed me what his bedroom looked like as a kid, so I was able to describe exactly how it was decorated.  It turned out, they enjoyed pretzels everyday after school, and his room was exactly as I described.

During this session, she emanated, this is my son and I need to attend to him.  She was happy I was there working on him but she seemed concerned that part of his midriff was showing. I kept feeling like she wanted to pull down his shirt.  She wouldn’t leave the area I was working on and so I could hardly concentrate on the healing at hand (no pun intended!).

When I finished the session, I asked him if his mom was the type of mom to be fixing his clothes when he was talking to a friend. “Yes! She was! It was so embarrassing!”  I explained how she was so concerned about his midriff showing and kept distracting me--he laughed and so did I.  After the session, he reported that he was better able to write and could now place weight on his right leg--and I was happy to help.

Recently I was working on a new friend of mine and totally enjoying it.  I love being in the zone--channelling this beautiful energy, knowing that I am helping her body physically, spiritually, and emotionally. To me, the emotional and spiritual body are one and the same.  They are energetically intertwined.  Emotions are rapped up (sometimes tightly!) in the chakras.  I promise to share all my knowledge of the chakras at a later time, but for now, chakras are basically energy centers located close to the body and correlate with major intersections of nerves. I want you to be able to see how emotions, the chakras, and listening to your body are all related because I use information to help my clients.

I started working on my friend because she was experiencing pain in her middle back.  It was also causing her ribs to hurt.  As soon as I reached the area, I could see exactly what I needed to do.  I could literally see her ribs and the muscle that was slightly torn (because I can do this, I am considered a Medical Intuitive--but not a doctor!).  I could also feel the bottom four chakras out of balance.  As l’ve mentioned before, spontaneous illness is unlikely the cause, so I started to listen to what her body was telling me so I could see what may have lead up to this muscle being torn.

That’s when I started feeling anxious, protective, like I was battling something, worried about finances and alone. Whoa!  That’s a lot of emotions!  So how was this information related to the imbalances in her body?  Each of those feelings corresponds to a chakra.  Rather than standing over her and continuing to try to make sense of what was going on, I decided to tell her what I was feeling and describe the imbalances in her chakras.

Low and behold I was making sense (maybe I haven’t lost my mind)!  My friend revealed that her brother had passed 11 months earlier, and there was a financial battle over his estate.  She also said she has been dealing with the financial aspect of his death for so long that her body hasn’t had the space to grieve. So, exactly how are these emotions effecting the body?

Here’s how these emotions translate into the body spiritually speaking.  The base chakra (first chakra) is related to family, second chakra (in the back) is related to finances, third chakra is related to power, and fourth chakra is related to love and grief.  All four of her chakras were responding to the emotional things in her life--family, finances, power, grief and love.  After discussing these things, she could see how her muscle in her back became vulnerable and eventually torn.  There was an overall weakness  in the area that paved a path for dis-ease!  Her torn muscle (pain) is her body signaling that certain emotions need to be processed and released.  This is why I worry when Western doctors prescribe pain relievers without addressing the whole body (mind, body and spirit).  Pain is your body talking to you!  So the next time you have a headache or your neck is sore, ask yourself, what is my body trying to tell me?  Listening to your body will probably help you avoid disease!  How great!!!

Once I balanced my friends chakras and made a few suggestions she could do for herself, I was off on my way-- always grateful for the opportunity to help someone and to bring more clarity and peace into their lives.

Your Body is a Wonderland

"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself.  The challenge is to silence the mind." ~ Caroline Myss

So before we go any deeper into energy medicine, let's take a look at the benefits of alternative medicine and what's at the root of illness.

Many people seek alternative medicine, because Western medicine has been unsuccessful in treating their dis-ease. Dis-ease is when the energetic body is not in balance-often leading to disease.*

One amazing woman I met said, "Amy, I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.  The doctor said the cancer had spread to my femur and neck too.  The doctor said I had 6 months to live and there was nothing they could do for me. Amy, that was 2.5 years ago, and I just went to the doctor yesterday and they can't find the cancer in me.  There is nothing wrong with me (my jaw dropped to the floor).  Do you want to know why?  I found Reiki.  I decided my health was in my hands, so I found an alternative.  I started getting Reiki treatments twice a week, took natural herbs and became a Reiki Master myself.  I don't know why God decided I should live, but I guess it is to do this (energy healing)!"

Shortly after meeting her, I spoke to 2 more people who survived cancer using alternative medicine.  And those are people I have met!  I can't imagine how many others are out there!  So why isn't the shock media talking about these cases?  It's shocking, isn't it?

So what's really at work in helping these people overcome things like cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, pain, nausea, stress, asthma, allergies, infertility and many other problems?  That question has left many doctors and scientists scrambling for an answer.  Some say, the placebo effect.  Some say, misdiagnosis and others remain curious.  The curious ones are the pioneers helping the rest of us understand what is truly at work here.  A new science called Psycho-Neuro Immunology is the study of the mind-body connection.  Essentially, it is the study of how emotions are related to illness.  We, as a society, are starting to look at the body more "Whole-istically."  This is great!  We just need to figure out what's causing our emotions to effect our bodies so dramatically.

If our bodies are exposed to all sorts of bacteria and viruses daily, why aren't we always sick?  Also, many of us have cells in our body that are reproducing too much (forming a tumor) that are destroyed without becoming life threatening or even noticeable.  Why?  What is the defining factor in whether we get sick or not?  You may have guessed by now that it is the complex dance between our emotions and our body.  Emotions are biologically a complex network of chemicals and hormones being released into the body.  Some make you feel good (Serotonin), other's not so good (Cortisol).

In discussing illness, we are mostly concerned with the abundance of stress hormones.  Of course, the other biological chemicals and hormones are important, because they help to balance the body, but for now we will discuss Cortisol.  Cortisol, a stress hormone, in large quantities puts stress on your body and leads to inflammation and immune suppression.  Originally, this stress hormone served an important function--to save you from being eaten by a lion!  But now, this hormone is being released when we are late to pick up our kids from soccer practice (not so life threatening!). This chemical is being sent around the body misinforming the body that there is danger.  So the million dollar question is, who or what is responsible for the body interpreting things as stressful when in fact they are not?

The soul!  To make this easier to understand, I describe the soul like having a sophisticated four-year old child inside your body at all times (bare with me please).  The less you listen to that four-year old, the louder the four-year old screams back at you until you listen. The more you listen to and love the four-year old, the more she listens and loves you back.  It's that simple.  In this case, ignoring the child creates dis-ease.  Rarely, does someone become miraculously sick (sounds funny just saying it).  Generally there are warning signs-- much like when a four-year old is about to throw a tantrum.  It usually starts out (with increasing desperation), "Mommy.... Mommy... Mommy, Mommy... Mommmmmy, Mommmmmmy, Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy!!!!"   The same thing happens in the human body.  There are warning signs such as fatigue, "low energy," confusion, unhappiness, pain, bleeding, vomiting-- you get the picture.  It's when we pay attention to those signs that we often avoid the big Mommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy!!!!  If we don't listen to the warning signs the soul will get our attention no matter what because it always has our best interest at heart.  That's when things like cancer and heart attacks happen.  The idea is, if we stop you in your tracks--make you listen, maybe you will hear what the soul has to say.

If you'd like to connect with your soul/four-year old child inside, just get quiet and listen to your body.  Your body is talking to you through your cells in every moment.  Your soul/body knows exactly what is best for you.  If you listen carefully enough (meditation really helps with this), you will be guided to do things you probably aren't use to.  That's ok!  We have all been programmed to do things that aren't great for our body/soul over our lifetime.  Often, the quiet is what we have spent much of our lives avoiding.  Which is why cell phones, email, the internet, and television are so popular.  It seriously takes guts to listen to yourself.  However, I assure you that you will be glad you did.  You will begin to become more in tune with your emotions and body and thus lead a happier and healthier life!  Who doesn't want that?

Many alternative medicines aid in listening to the body and correcting the energetic imbalances taking place in the body.  Often emotions that were once pent-up, are released thus aiding in relaxation of the body and boosting the immune system.  Boosting the immune system helps in reducing inflammation in the body.  Inflammation is linked with all chronic illnesses.

Got energy medicine?

*Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that anyone should abandon modern Western medicine.  I truly believe it serves its purpose (thus my hope of the marriage of Eastern and Western medicine).  I believe that anyone in crisis should seek out both options and chose the one that works for them.

Rock Your Body

"I think... the most important alternative medicine treatment of all...is the area of energy medicine." ~Dr. Oz

So what is energy medicine?

Energy medicine is Reiki, acupuncture, acupressure, Qi Gong, reflexology, Donna Eden's meridian work and many others.  To be quite honest, they are all working with the same thing--the body's energy system, so placing all these under the same umbrella makes it easier to talk about.  Each modality offers a unique way of translating the energy from one source to another, but ultimately, they are all using the same main tool-universal energy force or Qi.

Some of you may be unfamiliar with referring to the body as being "made up of energy."  You are not alone.  Western medicine has certainly made it difficult to get a glimpse of these "alternative medicines"-- mostly because the drug companies would be missing out on millions of dollars spent on prescription drugs (I'll explain why that is true at a later time).

First, we all need to be on the same page--the human body is made up of energy. On the simplest level, energy cannot be created or destroyed.  You may remember from Earth Science class (thanks Ms. Silva!) that the universe came from a single atom splitting.  That same energy has been recycled for billions of years.  Each of us is made up of that very same energy.  Essentially we have all been dinosaurs, plants, fish, rocks, spiders, etc.--at least part of one.  It sure makes it easier to comprehend the idea that we are all "One"-- doesn't it.

Ok, so moving onto a deeper level.  Many of us are familiar with the idea that the brain "fires" signals (electrically) to the rest of the body.  These signals tell the body (all the way down to the cellular level) what to do, but in fact the heart is the major source of energy in the body.  It helps supply the energy necessary to run the body. The heart is energetically 5,000 times stronger than the brain!  The electromagnetic energy from the heart can be measured up to 10 feet away!   Holy moly is right! Guess what, when you were feeling "heartache" because your partner, lover, mother, father, whoever spends a lot of time with you, left to go somewhere far away, your heart was looking for their heartbeat (unique energetic pattern emitted from their heart).  When you are around someone a significant amount of time, your energetic system begins to recognize and sync up with the other's heartbeat.  So when he/she leaves, your heartbeat continually searches for his/hers.  Awwww, how romantic.  Scientists believe that our heartbeat energy is continuing to travel out into outer space continually.

Ok, now for the stuff that may blow your mind.  At least it blew my mind.  (Drum roll please...) The brain of the cell is NOT the nucleus.  Yup! I'll give you a minute.  It is the cell membrane that is the brain of the cell.  They now call it the plasma membrane.  The name says it all (memBRANE-jeesh, that's obvious).  The plasma membrane is on the outside of the cell.  How do we know this?  Well, my buddy (I wish) Dr. Bruce Lipton decided to take a cell and put it in a petri dish and put an apple slice near the cell.  The cell actually moved towards the apple.  He took the same cell and put it near a toxin, and it moved away.  This is evidence that the cell/plasma membrane senses the environment.   It sends a signal (via e-mail-jk) back to the now emotionally defeated nucleus.  That's how the body is able to reproduce/repair what is needed to be reproduced/repaired at time.  The nucleus is like a filing cabinet and pulls out the blueprint (of an ear cell, blood cell, etc) that is needed at the time.  Without the plasma membrane's input, the nucleus is at a loss of what to do.  So WHY is this important?

Thinking more globally... So if humans are made up of trillions of cells, this means that we are like walking antennas- constantly sensing our environment.  Now can you see why you may not like the "energy of a person/room/situation."  It is your cells (trillions!) talking to you.  Now is it a little easier to understand how the body may respond to energy medicine?

Alright, I think I've bombarded you with enough to think about. Enjoy the rest of your day.  I will!

"Be the change you want to see in the world."  ~Mahatma Gandhi

This is the reason for my blog.  I want to see a more positive world.  I want an environment that is truly safe for self-expression.  And one where there is a marriage of Eastern and Western medicine.  I want to be a part of the transformation that is taking place on this planet right now, so I started a blog.

I'll fill you in on who I am and what made me ME---chronologically speaking.  The rest of the blog is dedicated to what I have learned and my experiences as a healer.  I'll get you right up to speed.  You won't even miss a beat.

So here goes...I'm a middle child (of six kids) with a twin.  Yes, your calculations are correct-- I shared the middle child slot with my sister Sara.  This basically rendered anything I said growing up as obsolete.  This is why I have so much to say.

Being raised in a small town was great.  We always felt safe and secure and played a lot of sports and hung outside all day.  Life was easy.

After leaving my little hometown I ventured to Syracuse University, where I discovered I was anonymous!  How great!  I could just be me.  Not Amy who is a sister of so and so.  I could find myself.  And I did.  I met my best friend Michelle who has a personality that screams, "I am fun!" She also, by the way, is an only child and was very aware of who she was and I was not---something I admired in her.  We helped each other grow immeasurably.

Approaching graduation,  I realized I needed to grow up, get a job and start grad school.  I couldn't afford another school, so I joined the NYC Teaching Fellows program.  What an experience!  Thank God I was 22 years old at the time.  I have no idea how I had the energy to do what I did every day.  I saw and heard things no one should ever see or hear.  I saw a corrupt school system, students being overlooked, and children fighting for their life.  I saw adults being children and children being adults.  I'll never forget those kids or my experiences.  The one thing that kept me safe in those schools was the unconditional love I had for the students.  Each child had something about them that I could love--and that is all they truly wanted-- to be loved.

Several years after teaching the poorest kids in the city, I got a glimpse of what it is like to be one of the richest kids in the city.  I became a full-time tutor for a beautiful family.  This gave me an interesting perspective on raising children and what it is like to "have it all."  It's a wonderful experience to feel so loved by another family- to feel like your own family has just doubled.

Working for that family provided the right circumstances to venture into the world of energy medicine.  I decided to take the leap and find out why I felt like my hands could heal.  I decided to become (drum roll please...) a Reiki Master.  Actually, it's not that serious.  It's just funny to me to be called a master at anything.  I did however find my love.  I found my purpose.  I found I could help people beyond my wildest dreams--and that is not an exaggeration.  I have seen and felt things I never knew a person could.  I am astounded that this field is not yet mainstream.  I have made it my goal to bring this form of healing to the general public.  I fully believe in the marriage of Eastern and Western medicine, and I'm not the only one. Just ask Dr. Oz, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Caroline Myss, Wayne Dyer, Donna Eden, and many others.

I decided to go to massage school in Florida and get my license as a massage therapist fully knowing that I would never be a massage therapist! I needed that license to be an energy healer.  Recently, I moved to Colorado and had a baby with my partner!  My son is almost 2 and half now and I just completed my first study of the Effects of Energy Work On People With Parkinson's. Everyday I wake up excited for what is to come. I promise to share my knowledge and happiness with you.

Cheers!

Now let's get started!

Welcome!

In this blog I hope to inspire you.  I will share my journey in hopes that you may find some comfort, guidance or help.  I will share my thoughts and feelings.  I will share the multidimensional way that I see humans and their experience.  I will share my knowledge of energy medicine and how it is changing the face of modern western medicine.  I will share insights about wellness, and well being.   This blog will likely cause you to question your beliefs (and my sanity!), to see life in a new way, and to begin to notice and wonder about the subtleties in life.  I hope you join me on my journey of transformation.
